Action Plan

 CHROME RECOVERY:

All the chrome tanning units in the country are having  the chrome recovery plant either on individual basis or on collective basis in the form of common chrome recovery plant and use the recovered chrome in the tanning process.

WASTE MINIMISATION MEASURES:

 Waste minimisation circles in all the tanneries to implement waste minimisation measures and for adoption of clean technologies are formed.

 Implementation of waste minimisation measures as identified by the Task Force. Constituted by the Central Pollution Control Board.

WATER CONSERVATION AND POLLUTION CONTROL:

All the tanneries have installed water meters and flow meters to measure actual consumption and waste water discharge.

Consumption of water reduced to 22 m3/tonne of hides/skins.

Ground water quality being monitoring to  strengthened wherever the treated effluents are applied on land for irrigation.

Deployment of qualified and well-trained staff for O & M of the ETP’s / CETP’s.

Separate energy meter for ETP’s / CETP’s.

Replacement of open anaerobic lagoons with cleaner technology options.

Modification / up-gradation of the CETP’s / ETP’s wherever necessary is taken by tannery units and CETP.

 COMPLIANCE OF STANDARDS:

Implementation of guidelines developed by CPCB for health and safety of workers employed in the industries / ETP / CETP.

All The large tannery units ( Processing more than 5 tonnes per day of hides / skins) have undertaken Environmental Auditing on annual basis.

Implementation of recommendation of the task force constituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India

Central Pollution Control Board.
